Under the patronage of His Excellency Engineer Musa Maaytah, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent Election Commission, Solidarity Is Global Institute-JO "SIGI" organized a training dialogue conference titled "Enhancing Women’s Political Participation and Decision-Making." The event included participation from current and former members of the House of Parliament and Senate, civil society organizations, and representatives of political parties in Jordan.

This conference is part of a political development project implemented by "SIGI" titled “Sawwet: Activating the Role of Women and Youth in Political Life,” in partnership with Jordanian National Forum for Women and funded by Rutgers International.

In his address, His Excellency Engineer Maaytah emphasized that political modernization in Jordan must be achieved through peaceful work. He stated that no entity should present itself in opposition to the state, and that political parties should be true partners in the political process. This, he noted, is the essence of political modernization, and democracy cannot be realized without the rule of law.

He further explained that since its establishment, the Independent Election Commission has applied the law based on transparency. In a country over a hundred years old, Jordan has protected itself and developed across multiple sectors, empowering women and enhancing their role across various aspects of life. He emphasized that progress in Jordan highlights the importance of women, youth, and democracy in this era—thanks to wise leadership and a loyal, conscious people. He added that diversity is the foundation of societal richness.

MP Mrs. Huda Naffa, Deputy Speaker of the Jordanian Parliament House, also spoke, highlighting the perseverance of Jordanian women who carry the torch of ambition and hope. She noted that despite challenges, women have long been active contributors to society, from silent partners to front-line advocates for their rightful place in political decision-making—an evolution greatly supported by His Majesty King Abdullah Bin Al-Hussien II, who played a pivotal role in creating a legal, political, and social environment that enables women to access decision-making positions.

Mrs. Naffa stressed that sustainable development cannot be achieved without balanced, sustainable partnerships and that supporting women’s access to parliament, government, and decision-making positions is essential to achieving national constitutional entitlements in a society that believes in justice and equality.

Her Excellency Senator Ihsan Barakat, Deputy to HRH Princess Basma and representative of Jordanian National Forum for Women, emphasized that rights-based issues can only be achieved through building partnerships via social networks and civil society organizations. She highlighted the crucial role of national mechanisms and government institutions in strengthening partnerships and achieving justice and equality, pointing specifically to the Independent Election Commission’s major role in implementing the law and supporting political modernization.

Mrs. Nuha Mharez, Chairwoman of SIGI’s Board of Directors, affirmed that SIGI, as part of its rights-based approach, always seeks to participate in community development by upholding the principles of justice and equality. She highlighted the importance of sharing experiences on women’s political participation and decision-making, rooted in the belief that women are full citizens with rights, duties, capabilities, and potential that make them equal partners in nation-building—as affirmed by the constitution and the political will.

Mrs. Inaam Asha, Executive Director and Advisor of “SIGI”, explained that the organization has been working for three decades based on the principles of human rights. As a feminist, developmental, rights-based institution, “SIGI” works to empower women and youth and engage men in women’s issues, viewing them as societal concerns. Among its many projects is “Sawwet,” which focuses on the active participation of women and youth in public and political life. One of its key partners is the Independent Election Commission, which has recognized SIGI as an accredited organization for election monitoring and youth training.
