Dr. Malak Al-Saudi, a psychological specialist at Solidarity Is Global Institute-JO (SIGI), participated in the “Culture of Dialogue” conference organized by the Bayt Al-Hekma Association for Supporting Cancer Patients. This participation comes as part of the partnership between SIGI and Bayt Al-Hekma, aimed at supporting efforts to empower women and assist vulnerable groups, including working women and cancer patients.
SIGI is implementing the “Masahat Amineh” project – Policies to Combat Violence in the Workplace and World of Work, supported by the African Women’s Development Fund. The project seeks to address workplace violence by strengthening the role of civil society organizations, improving legal frameworks, and developing policies related to women's participation in the labor market.
During the conference, participants emphasized the importance of civil society organizations and local associations in economically empowering women, promoting dialogue with decision-makers, and raising awareness about workplace and community violence, with a call for intensified efforts to combat it.
As part of the project activities, SIGI has conducted a series of awareness campaigns on workplace violence and mechanisms to reduce it. These campaigns targeted a wide range of stakeholders including decision-makers, employers, working women and job seekers, local associations, and youth and women leaders. The organization is also working on developing policies, action plans, legislation, and programs to help provide a safe work environment for women in Jordan.
Dr. Al-Saudi emphasized the importance of addressing the psychological needs of working women, highlighting the efforts made within the “Safe Pathways” project, which is implemented in partnership with a specialized mental health team. A psychological survey of working women was conducted to provide them with the necessary support. The findings are being presented to decision-makers to promote a more psychologically aware workplace environment, with a focus on providing continuous psychological support services.
SIGI concluded its participation by stressing the importance of strengthening partnerships with civil society organizations working in the field of women's empowerment and continuing collaborative efforts to confront challenges related to violence and discrimination in the labor market.
