Amman – As part of the “Shaping the Future and Changing the Narrative” initiative, the Solidarity Is Global Institute – Jordan (SIGI) conducted a specialized training workshop focused on the critical consumption of media content related to feminist issues, utilizing the innovative methodology of “Newspaper Theatre.” The workshop was supported by Art Fusion – Romania and funded by the European Union through the Erasmus+ Programme.

Held over three days from 28 to 30 September 2025, the workshop engaged young participants interested in theatrical arts and social justice. It featured interactive sessions introducing the project’s objectives, exploring the concept of feminism, and distinguishing between dominant and alternative narratives. Practical exercises enabled participants to analyze news stories and transform them into theatrical performances that encourage public dialogue on women’s representation in the media.

The workshop focused on issues related to gender-based violence against women and girls, which were developed into theatrical pieces using newspaper theatre techniques. These performances are scheduled to be presented locally in the coming period. SIGI will continue to support the youth team through regular rehearsals, performance development sessions, and quality assurance processes to ensure the alignment of the final presentations with the project’s vision.

Hanaa Ramadan, Director of Media and Communications and Project Lead, emphasized that “Shaping the Future” aims to foster a balanced media narrative that objectively reflects gender issues and women’s realities. By integrating newspaper theatre, media engagement, and digital campaigns, the initiative seeks to raise public awareness and promote inclusive discourse. She described newspaper theatre as a creative and analytical tool that transforms news into interactive performances, stimulating critical thinking and contributing to a more just and equitable representation of women.

The project is being implemented across six countries—Romania, Egypt, Jordan, Portugal, Tunisia, and Lebanon—forming an international alliance committed to amplifying positive messages and showcasing the achievements and active participation of women in society.
