Dr. Amani Al-Sarhan Represents the Jordanian Women's Solidarity Institute (SIGI) at the National Conference on Women's Role in Political Modernization

Under the patronage of H.E. Mazen Al-Qadi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Amani Al-Sarhan, Projects Manager at the Jordanian Women's Solidarity Institute (SIGI) and a Municipal Council Member, participated as a representative of civil society organizations in the national conference titled "Women as Partners in Political Modernization: Towards More Inclusive and Equitable Local Governance."

The conference was held as part of the project "Towards Inclusive Local Governance: Amending the 2026 Draft Local Administration Law to Strengthen Women's Participation," organized by the Rural Ambassadors Foundation for Development and Advancement in partnership with the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) – Amman Office. The event brought together members of the House of Representatives, representatives of government institutions, civil society organizations, and women and local leaders.

Dr. Al-Sarhan participated in the panel discussion "Dialogue on the Statement and Its Key Messages," alongside a representative from the Ministry of Local Administration, MP Khalifa Suleiman Al-Dayyat, Chair of the Parliamentary Administrative Committee, and Ms. Zainab Bani Ata, with the session moderated by Dr. Mohammad Bani Mustafa.

During her intervention, Dr. Al-Sarhan emphasized the importance of strengthening women's participation in local governance as an essential partner in decision-making and local development. She stressed that legislative amendments should include meaningful guarantees to enhance women's representation in municipal and local councils, based on the principles of justice and equal opportunities, in line with Jordan's political modernization process.

She also called for drawing on the accumulated experience of women serving in municipal councils and for engaging civil society organizations in developing relevant legislation and policies, with the aim of achieving a more inclusive, equitable, and responsive system of local governance that meets the needs of society.
